Health

Health
This is the corner of stone life. Mental, Physical, Spiritual.

Eat fresh and whole food. If you can paint a colorful picture with the colors on your plate, you are eating well!  Add seeds and nuts for snacks.  Serving size no larger than your fist. Avoid the 3 white devils: Sugar, processed flower and dairy. A high fiber diet keeps our gut biome or good bacteria healthy which in turn, keeps you healthy!

Hydrate.  No soda! 1 oz of water per 2 pounds of body weight per day!

Above and beyond your water intake requirement, coffee and tea are excellent antioxidants in moderation. Studies are now demonstrating that they have cancer preventing qualities. They may also help with improving diabetes and cardiovascular health. Alzheimer's prevention.  Particularly green tea has health benefits and healing qualities.

I am asked about beer and wine.  Hard alcohol is a hard no.  If you choose to drink alcohol, choose wisely. Beer has a lot of B vitamins and fiber.  Calories are an issue.  Go for the non alcoholic brew if you want to avoid alcohol.  No more than 1 or 2, 12 oz servings a day.  Wine in moderation has been shown to be of benefit.  Again, 1 to 2, 6 oz servings a day.  Avoid before bed time.

Exercise regularly for cardio, strength and flexibility. Make exercise a daily practice. As little as 20 minutes a day.  Work up from there. You do not need a gym.  Your own body weight and a good imagination will get you a great work out.  A daily yoga practice.  A daily walking practice is a great place to start.

Sleep. Sleep habits are essential.  Go to bed and get up the same time.  Minimum of 7 to 8 hours a night. Sleep deprivation is killing us! Sleep deprivation is associated with motor vehicle and workplace accidents. Brain fog and poor decision making.  Mistakes and bad choices.  It leads to poor health such as obesity because of hormones get all out of sink.

Create a healthy sleep space.  No cell phone or electronics 1 hour before bed.  Get the cell phone out of the bedroom.  Have a cool dark room.  Hydrate right out of bed. Take an afternoon nape.

Continue to learn and be mentally sharp. Read real books.  Studies are now showing electronic books are not good for our imagination while we read.  Electronic devices are a distraction.

Take the time to be spiritual and build spiritual strength and  health.  Get in tuned with mind, body and spirit.

Daily breathe practice. Daily meditation practice.  Daily Gratitude Journal.

Every Day list 3 things you are grateful for.  Identify one thing you will focus on and get done that day no matter what.  Identify one thing that you will let go of.  No more resentment! Give grace and forgiveness.

Our American lifestyle and diet is killing us!  Because of our diet 1 out of 3 of us are obese.  Soon 1 out of 2 of us will be obese.  Not only are we killing  ourselves physically,  but mentally.  We are experiencing depression and anxiety.  Suicide is on the rise.

Do not forget the financial cost.  If we do not get healthy our poor health will be devastating our economy.  Its in part,  what we are seeing now with COVID 19 and those at highest risk are those that are suffering from poor lifestyle choices.  I have seen comments on social media asking "why can't we do what they are doing in Northern Europe" in managing the COVID19 outbreak.  Our life style is why.  We are not healthy as a country.  They eat better and exercise more.  They are in better health than we are.

Our diet is the leading cause of  fatty liver! Our diet not alcohol!  Fatty liver is associated with Metabolic syndrome. Which is linked to obesity, hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease and cancer.  All because of our lifestyle choices.  I have seen journal articles quoting 1 in 3 americans have fatty liver.

It is time to get healthy and strong!  With this down time we now have, it is time to learn to cook at home again.  Learn to be active.  Start new habits and routines.  Get rest, good eating and exercise.  Taking the time to relax and get mentally and spiritually strong!

It is time to get and be healthy!

Hooyah!
