The Coin


 


For Christmas in 2023 I gave a Decision coin to those I care deeply about.  I continue to give the coins and over the past year I have given out over 100.  

What is a Decision coin you may ask? It is a coin used to make decisions of course.  When you find yourself in a position you need to make a choice between 2 things.  Assign one choice Heads and one Tails.  Flip the coin.  Where it lands is the one you go with it.   Do not look back!

This started for me when I was on a trip the to the Big Island with close friends and my son Scott.  We found ourselves multiple times trying to make a choice on what to do, where to go or what to eat.  He would pull out this coin and say Head or Tails!  Flip it.  Off we could go!

Scott would later explain he got the idea from a book about a gentleman that use he would use a set of Decision Dice or coin to make all of his life decisions.  The book was the story of his life and how he experienced life making decisions in this way. 

When you really think about it a year from now does it really matter what you had for dinner or what activity you did? You are still creating great memories.  Maybe.  Just Maybe, you eat  or do something you would have never tried and found to love it.

The coin I chose to give is engraved.

On the Front:  "Tempus Fugus" Time is fleeting. "Memento Mori" Remember Death.

On the Back:  The Tree of Life and the engraving "Fac Vitam Incredibilem" To live Incredibly! "Menento Vivere" Remember to Live!

I carry this coin with me everywhere I go.  I use it often.  It reminds me "Time" is my most valuable asset.  Death is coming.  

To keep Living an INCREDIBLE Life!  To savor every moment!  Go for it!  Love Deeper!  Be in the moment! Enjoy my life!

Mother in Laws

  This past week my Mother In Law passed away.  I reflected on the her and her life.  Our relationship.  What I learned from her.   In our culture you hear a lot of negative commentary made toward relationships with ones Mother In Law. There may or may not be some truth to the lense that one may see their Mother In Law.   When I met her I got the impression she was not impressed and had genuine concern over her daughter marrying me.   For I was not the Returned Missionary she was hopping for her daughter.  I had long hair and looked like I walked out of a Poison MTV video.  I was a 4th year college student in a 2 year college working as a meat cutter/truck driver. Accountability Mirror

The Accountability Mirror.  What is it?  Goggins describes it like this:  You get up go to the mirror.  Who is looking back?   Are you seeing the person you expected?  Can you see your future Kick Ass self somewhere in the mirror?  Ask yourself "What is it going to take to get there?  What do you have to do".  Are you willing to do what it takes?  Are you willing to SUFFER?  Are you willing to get after it?  Are your willing to sacrifice? Who are You?  Are you seeing the person reflect back at you the person you think you are?  Or do you have work to do.  Are you Accountable?  Is what you do in private reflecting what you do and how you act in public? Healthy Eats!

Healthy Cooking Made Easy! One of the fun ways I have found to healthy eating is with the use of a Bamboo Steamer.  Easy to use and inexpensive.  It is a true KISS technique in cooking! First assemble your ingredients.  I like fresh Veggies.  Slice and dice!  Get all the prep work done.  Be creative in placement in the Bamboo steamer. If using proteins like chicken or fish I recommend a small plate in the steamer to rest the chicken or  fish on.  When using shrimp,  I like using parchment paper.  Wrap the shrimp by folding the paper up tight  and place in the Bamboo steamer.  You want to protect the Steamer from the oils of the fish and chicken.   Once the Bamboo Steamer is full, put it back together.  Get you water boiling in a pot.  Once the water is boiling, place the Bamboo steamer on top and steam  for 8 to 10 minutes.  Remove from heat.  Add salt pepper and a squirt of lime juice and serve! Quiet Yesterday I lost it.  It all came to a head.  Nothing big.  Just things kept building.  Sliced my thumb open while fixing my truck. Then it happened.  A full on F Attack!  I lost it.  Shouldn't have.  But I did.   Looking back I lost the WIRM.  I Should have known my frame of mind was off.  I  was for whatever reason under stress.  During my daily routine vital signs were off slightly.   So how do I learn from this?   Start with getting quiet.  Evaluating the choices and actions. Which I should have done in the moment.  Stop!  Get really still.  Get Quiet.   Start to live in the moment frame by frame.  Get in tune with emotions.   Fill your heart with love and peace.  Use the WIRM (witness, interdict, redirect, maintain).  Do not respond to the negative.  Take a deep breath.  Listen to your soul!  Close your eyes.  Slow down.  SLOW DOWN!   Slow your thoughts.  Focus on the love of self and others.  Let go!  Find joy in this monument.  Find g
